Penelope
‘Penelope’ was a performance, executed during the exhibition ‘IN THE WORKS: Norwich Uni Fine Art Students and Staff’.
‘Penelope’ was developed in response to the undervaluing of craft within the fine art world. Bringing the labour behind a hand sewn quilt top into the spotlight at a contemporary art showcase. For 3 days, Ruby sat and stitched, using skills she had been taught by family, and surrounded by items given to her by loved one - imitating the cosy spaces in her home that Ruby usually creates her works in.
'Ruby welcomed guests to ask about the works, learn more about hand sewing, and the generational power a quilt can hold.
