I’m giving a Talk!
I’m super excited to share that I will be giving a Talk (for the first time) at Wisbech Gallery on Thursday 31st July 2025, as part of the Gallery’s ‘Conversation With The Artist’ programme!
Join me for an evening of discussion around the relationship between fine art and craft, and the place of craft in the Western world. This is a topic which I have been researching for about 2 years, and was the focus of my dissertation; it has been a consistent interest for me and an area that I am constantly exploring.
My interest in the area developed in 2022, while I was halfway through my degree. Having just explored body casting and sculpture, I was feeling a bit lost with my work until my brother recommended I look into the work of Dindga McCannon, a phenomenal artist using textiles to celebrate the heritage and legacy of Black Women. I was hooked, her use of textiles to create stunning tapestries and stories was all new to me, and I felt so annoyed that it had taken me so long to discover her work!
From here I delved into the world of craft, and exploring how these skills I had picked up, like crochet, embroidery, and sewing, could be used as fine art. It sounds odd but I had never thought that I could use these methods for my practice as an artist, I had always seen them as ‘just hobbies’ but now they form the core of my artistic practice.
The more I thought about this, the more I realised I wasn’t alone, and that there was a reason I had felt this way. Craft has always been shunned by the arts as something lesser, not ‘fine’ enough for fine art. And here my research and dissertation began.

I have since found so many incredible artists, stories, and books which constantly fuel my work and research, and now I get to share them all with you at the end of this month!
I can’t wait to see you all there - planning and writing this talk so far has been so fun and challenging, and I’m excited to finally share one of my biggest passions with you.
The ‘Conversation With The Artist’ programme has already featured some incredible artists, and I’m honoured to be joining them on the stage. Be sure to keep an eye out for the rest of the year’s talks as there are some exciting artists coming up…
