Craft 1-2-1s
In 2024, Ruby began to run 1-2-1 Craft Sessions; these were started in partnership with the Ferry Project to provide a calm space for clients to talk to someone new and learn a craft skill.
Sessions are planned so the clients can direct the type of skill they would like to learn, giving them the space to build up confidence and direct their sessions. The crafts Ruby teaches focus on the skills she uses in her professional practice: crochet, embroidery and applique.
There is no limit to the number of sessions, and the projects Ruby teaches can be adapted to allow for longer or shorter sessions, and can be spread over a few weeks. By working for a few hours over the weeks clients are able to build up their confidence with Ruby and their craft skill. After a few weeks Ruby will check in with the clients to see if they have any suggestions for where to move forward with their projects - this allows the clients to direct the sessions again and take ownership over what they are learning and creating.
Alongside the sessions, Ruby is developing a series of resources for clients to take away from sessions such as a beginners crochet guide, and a guide to the basics of applique. She encourages these skills to be worked on outside of the sessions, to provide a mindful hobby for clients, and these resources are essential for this.
