‘Sketch 1 & 2’ were created to play with applique methods and colour. At the time Ruby was still developing her applique skills, and wanted to push herself to create these spirals.
The imagery of the pieces was inspired by Ruby’s feelings of confusion, and journey for clarity at the time. The fabrics used are all secondhand, mostly being cut from old bedsheets and clothes.

The pieces were stretch framed, this is a new display method to Ruby and yet another way for her to experiment through her work.

‘Sketch 1 & 2’ were displayed as part of Wisbech Gallery’s ‘DRAW 25’ to show a different approach to drawing, using fabrics and needlework.
