Through Blue (2024)

Medium: Mixed Fabric, Hand/Machine Sewing
Not For Sale

‘Through Blue’ was created in response to feelings around finishing university to overcome a creative slump. ‘Through Blue’ is a physical manifestation of Ruby’s thoughts and attempts to move through a creative block.

‘Through Blue’ was inspired by traditional sampler quilts, experimenting with a variety of block designs allowed Ruby to play with ideas and combat her boredom which accompanied her creative slump. The quilt top was created using second-hand fabrics, the blocks were machine sewn with the binding and quilting lines added by hand. The quilting lines add to the design of the quilt, enhancing a star shape which is incorporated into the top design.

‘Through Blue’ was installed and displayed as part of the Wisbech Gallery 2024 Annual Open.
