Ayscoughfee Hall Museum - May Trail (2025)

Whilst working as an Assistant at Ayscoughfee Hall Museum, Ruby took on the project of organising the Museum’s May Half Term Trail. Her aims for this project were to make something fun, interactive and educational for all who visited during the half term. Her solution for this was to focus on the plants that grew in the Ayscoughfee Gardens, and share fun facts about them.

The challenge of this project was creating the mini displays for the scavenger hunt, after researchign different outcomes like origami, crochet, and fabric plushies, Ruby decided that creating these simple felt plushies would work best. The plants were made intentionally to resemble the plants they were made of, but to have a cartoon-type style to them to engage a younger audience.
Alongside hand sewing each of the plants, Ruby designed all promotional materials to accompany the trail, like the poster and tick sheet. She also created a series of labels to be hidden alongside the trail which would prompt participants to look out of the windows of the Museum, and continue to explore and find different plants or objects around the Museum and Gardens.

One of Ruby’s colleagues assisted with the install of the trail displays and collected feedback from visitors.
